Open Atelier People: Maja Kovač

Text by Maja Kovač

What do you do?

I’m a production manager, head of programme and public relations consultant for Plečnik House, a unique museum within Museum and Galleries of Ljubljana, Slovenia. With Plečnik’s Ljubljana being enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage List in July 2021, our job of keeping our greatest architect’s legacy properly protected and communicated is even more important than ever before.

What part of your institution is your favourite – i.e., a painting, a view, the colleagues, or something completely different – and why?

Stimulating environment, best team ever and dealing with architect Jože Plečnik’s heritage are definitely big advantages of my work. I highly appreciate Plečnik’s creative spirit which can still be felt within the walls of his home, and I think his spirit still positively affects and motivates all of us, working with his heritage.

Why is Open Atelier important to you and what are you looking forward to?

Public engagement is a very important part of working for Plečnik House, since we have already created different experiences for different audiences. By supporting the design and experimentation with some new models of public engagement, Open Atelier represents a highly valuable opportunity for our museum.
